Now this is just further evidence in my crusade against hotpot. Not only do they expect us to cook our own food, we now have to carry it to the table ourselves.

Yes! Way to go! I never understood what’s supposed to be so great about eating Hot Pot. Its a big mess; you never know when the food is done; it doesn’t taste all that great; you’re sitting there in the steam, sweating like a pig; and you have to do everything yourself!

Could you please be patient and take some time to pay attention to colors of food, because raw food and cooked food have different colors.

That’s why Hot Pot is so popular in Winter. As far as I knwo, some Hot Pot resturants in Taiwan and US can offer a new kind of Hot Pot. They will offer each guest a small pot with a small stove, so that guests can cook food in their own pot. No more fighting, no more thumbnail broken or fixed.

I am really sorry to hear that, however, I think the key points here are cooking skills, flavouring materials, soup blend汤料, and raw food offered by resturant.

东西方文化之间差异无疑是巨大的，在体验文化差异时的不适也是巨大的。我很难奢望这位仁兄会喜欢吃火锅，我只希望他能明白，一个人要真正地体验一种异国（异域、异种）文化必须具备对生活（尤其是他人的生活）细致入微的洞查力以及对文化差异所带来的不适有足够的耐心、理解和宽容。

Yeah, well, shame on me, I guess. But if I can get out of eating a Hotpot, I’ll try. And if tried hotpot in different cities, too. Many different styles. I think the problem is not a cultural one, but that I am an impatient person when it comes to food: when I see my food, I want to eat it and that’s that. Although I enjoy eating, its almost like a chore and I want to get done with it. So having to look at all that food and wonder if its done or not and have to piece together my meal is not exactly my idea of a relaxing meal. But of course, there’s nothing wrong with hotpot. There can’t be anything wrong with a place where they have meat on sticks!

啊，哥们，千万别这么说，你在吃火锅的时候的许多不适应是可以理解的。而且，说实话吧，我们中国人吃西餐的时候也照样有这样那样的不适应，因为不了解你们西方人的文化而闹出来的笑话（俗称“出洋相”）也照样是一堆一堆的。我的想法其实是：只要抱着真诚沟通、互相理解的态度，尽管文化的差异让我们吃尽苦头，我们还是可以在苦头里体验一下别人的生活，在灵魂里找到一点由沟通和理解带来的安慰。
